Did you feel it?

So I came back from Olive Garden this past Saturday around 9:30 PM with my wife, brother and sister-in-law. We immediately separated—My brother and I went into my office so he could prepare his laptop for a business trip while we’re chatting and listening to some music. The girls sat in the living room and traded life stories. The clock approached midnight and I thought “Is this the perfect time to do the switch or what?” (more…)

The Big Bang Update

Yes, I’m so self-centered that I decided to name this music station update after one of the greatest events (or hoaxes?) in the history of the universe. And it’s a geeky update, not a cool one.

It’s been almost two years since I announced that I would probably maybe perhaps rip the station’s tracks from their highest quality sources and switch to using mp3PRO 96 Kbps. Actually, there was the Great Debate (again with the  self-absorption) and I was convinced by a lone (actually, the only) commenter to stick with the more balanced and space-saving 96 Kbps even if it caused people somewhere to DIE. Uncharted

After a nice long winter vacation, we arrived at Cleveland Hopkin’s airport greeted by a slap of  ice-cold weather. What was worse was the feeling you get when you sit in the car and your frozen jeans touch the ugly parts of your body. We arrived at the apartment, opened the front door letting all the heat out, and I found a white box-shaped bag waiting in front of my television set. It was weird and unexpected. I slowly walked towards it… and…… and… To make a long story short Uncharted 2 for the Playstation 3 is a sweet, sweet game. And for this very reason, two tracks by Greg Edmonson come your way: (more…)

Taking The Non-Movie Land Exit…

… for a quick pit stop then heading back.

My wife and I recently finished watching the entire series of Battlestar Galactica. While I’m not an avid television fan (there is just no time with 24-hour days), this series is one of the best I have ever seen on TV. It is a reimagining of the 1978 science fiction series splashed with elements of romance, betrayal, and some of the other stuff which makes it girl-friendly. This doesn’t mean that your watching it will make you look cool in front of the ladies. It means there will be fewer of the female species around, greatly reducing your chances of establishing even a thread of a connection with the other sex. To summarize, you might as well kill yourself right now. (more…)

Cinema Symphony

High Attendance By Very, Very, Very Short People

I have recently had the pleasure of meeting and chatting with British composer Andrew Pearce on Facebook. He stumbled upon Permanent Waves and made me realize it was missing some of his great compositions.

His latest work, Cinema Symphony, contains beautifully powerful and powerfully beautiful pieces. Conducted by José Serebrier, I was greatly pleased with what I heard—so much that I included the following tracks into the Permanent Waves stream:

  • Elegy for Violin and Orchestra
  • Celtic Warrior: Prelude for Orchestra

Thank you, Andrew, for your great work and talent.

Permanent Waves Has A Face…

… book… page.

If you’re on Facebook, then you have the opportunity to join the newly-created Permanent Waves group, based on non other than the Live365 Internet Radio station.

I remember Facebook when it was in its infancy. It was a cool and quiet place. Everything was free there. There were no crowds. People met other people from times of old, talked a little, or caught up on things. Now, Facebook is a 24-hour 7-days-a-week rave party. There is so much crap in it that people lost sight of what’s important. Dude, I want to see whatever my whoever from wherever is up to whenever. I don’t want to take a quiz on how old my brain is! Unfortunately, I got caught up in that whole chaos for a while until several months ago when I uninstalled all the non-standard applications and restricted my usage to several hou… err, minutes a day. It’s once again nice to see an opinionated video here or a friend’s baby picture there.

I thought it would be nice to put some faces on those Permanent Waves listeners and fans, so feel free to join and share your thoughts about the latest soundtracks, what’s playing on Permanent Waves or even request something! And if you’re one of those anti-social networking types, then it’s okay too. I can feel the pain of the sometimes-overwhelming Internet social life sometimes.

By the way, I added two more tracks:

  • Hanging from “Plunkett & Macleane” by Craig Armstrong.
  • The main theme from “Practical Magic” by Alan Silvestri.

Hope you like them!

Thanks, Dish Network… Sort Of

Several months ago, I posted my experience with signing up with AT&T’s U-Verse TV service and then canceling it a few days later. It generated several comments from curious minds as well as curious victims. I thought I’d add how I settled with Dish Network… for now.

Dish Network was attractive for 2 reasons: price and programming.

The important feature to investigate was the picture quality, so I ordered the TurboHD Silver package along with the ViP722 receiver, which supports two completely separate outputs for two rooms; one HD and one Standard Definition (SD). I didn’t care at all for the SD output, but I did care about the extra hard drive storage, which would allow me to record up to 55 hours of HD programming. Any extra processing power, if any, was a bonus. (more…)

Several days ago, Permanent Waves was designated “Editor’s Pick” by the Live365 team. After about 9 years of playing orchestral film music on the air, it was determined that Permanent Waves is “one of the top performing Live365 stations in terms of listener loyalty!” I would like to take this opportunity to thank each and every one of you, the listeners, for your continued positive comments, suggestions and contributions to the station. The mere fact that you guys enjoy what you hear brings me the greatest satisfaction. (more…)

If I were president, I would enact a new law: A film director or actor/actress must face the same punishment (or reward) the viewer faces when watching one of their works. With that said, if I were to add up all of Michael Bay’s atrocities since Armageddon, I think, I think, I would easily be able to just walk up to him on the street and dump a sturdy crap on his head and have him thank me for it. Up is Down

My wife’s sister visited us for about three weeks. In addition to some of the enjoyable activities that we engaged in such as roller coaster-riding, hiking, hanging out at restaurants and some picnicking, I thought we’d catch a nice movie at one of the better multiplexes. “Up” was out and everybody was raving about it. My wife is a big fan of Pixar’s works and she had already seen “Ratatouille” and “WALL-E” and loved them. I was the same, of course. (more…)
