Live365 Announces Changes

Think again when you say “change is good”.  This is something I should consider and bring to everyone’s attention. Live365 recently announced some “changes” to the Live365 broadcasting packages, which will take effect in February of 2009, at least for my account. Three critical effects to my current packages are:

  1. Maximum disk space would increase from ~600MB to 1GB;
  2. Maximum mp3 quality will be either 128Kbps or 96Kbps mp3PRO; and,
  3. On the downside, maximum simultaneous “Basic” listeners will be 40.

This is very bad as I see over 100 basic listeners tuning in to my station on a daily basis. Two ways to get around this is either to:

  1. Be first in line;
  2. Sign up for a VIP account. Then you will have no access restrictions and zero ads.

I know this stinks, and I hope the alternatives aren’t too bad either. It’s amazing how 8 years ago this thing used to be completely free. In fact, the Live365 name came from the fact that broadcasters could have up to 365 megabytes of storage to host all of their music for free.
