The X-Files: I Want To Shoot Myself
Ever since the new X-Files movie’s previews started surfacing on the small and big screens, I felt very nostalgic as I time-traveled back to the 1990′s when I used to tune to the awesome-in-a-geek-way television series. Sometimes it left me in pure wonderment, and other times it made me reach for a clean pair of shorts.
Either way, I wouldn’t say I was an avid fan who has watched each and every episode, although I have a strong feeling that very soon the DVD series will be on my Netflix queue, but I do remember that the show had a brilliant mix of reality and supernaturality, and it kept me hooked a good portion of the time.
The show also emphasized the two main counterparts. FBI agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully were the respective embodiments of open beliefs and supernatural cynicism. It was always a battle between simple Occam Razor’s abiding theories and sensible, tangible evidence… or lack of it.
Unfortunately, the movie itself is no more than an extended episode with a lackluster story and pre-cooked 10 years’ worth of character development. The only enjoyment I received was from the seeing David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson working together again.
I guess it’s not so bad to fatally shoot myself….
Maybe a shot to the foot or something…
Rent it.
