In this section, I will add guidelines and tips on how to listen to the stream using third party players (i.e. Winamp, MusicMatch, RealPlayer… etc.) as the information becomes available.
Winamp (Support for mp3PRO):
The following steps will help you achieve proper playback through Winamp and to set you up for some amazing mp3PRO CD-quality sound:
- Download and install the latest full version of Winamp (free)
- Download and install the free mp3pro plug-in for Winamp (Works with Winamp 2.75+ and 5.0+; Will NOT work with v3.x)
- Set your Live365 Listen Settings to show that your mp3 player (Winamp) is the software that you want to use to listen to Live365 stations.
- Configure your Browser for playback:
- Internet Explorer Users.
- Netscape Navigator or Communicator Users.
Note: Winamp users will be able to listen to mp3PRO streams without the need for Preferred Membership.
Unfortunately, song titles cannot be shown on the Winamp player. However, there is a way to view the Live365 3-track playlist inside Winamp and here it is:
- Open the Winamp Media Library. To do this, press and hold ALT+L. A window will appear along with 5 buttons
- Click on the "More..." button. A selection menu will appear. Click on "Open URL...". An Open URL window will appear.
- Copy and paste one of the following URLs according to the stream you're tuning to in the box. Right click on the link and choose "Copy Shortcut":
- The URL will be saved in the drop-down menu. Hopefully, next time, you won't need to copy and paste the URL again.
RealOne Player (No Support for mp3PRO):
- Download and install the latest version of
RealPlayer (Basic is free)
- Set your Live365 Listen Settings to show that your mp3 player (RealOne) is the software that you want to use to listen to Live365 stations.
- Configure your Browser for playback:
- Internet Explorer Users.
- Netscape Navigator or Communicator Users.
iTunes (Apple and Windows)
I have never used iTunes, but here are some tips from Eric M.:
"Just thought I'd let you know that I have still been able to listen to your station through my iTunes bookmark without any problems. For anyone using a Mac, simply use "Advanced>Open Stream..." and type in your address, which I'm sure you know is "http://www.live365.com/play/121049" and the bookmark should appear (permanently) in your iTunes library."
"Just thought I'd drop a quick note to let you know that since the release of iTunes for Windows, any Windows 2000 or Windows XP user can use the above instructions to listen using iTunes for windows. Same rules apply: after you type in the address once, it's permanently stored in your library, and a double click will connect you to the stream again." Thanks a lot, Eric!
Linux:
I have never used the Linux operating system before, so I'm not very familiar with its applications. If you have successfully tuned in Permanent Waves from Linux, please share your experiences with us. Here are some comments from some listeners.
"Nope, no Linux players seemed to do it. I'm surprised that VLC didn't pick it up....strange." - Eric M.
"XMMS is able to tune in to live365, probably since it's a WinAmp clone for GNU/Linux. Just thought I'd let you know - I'm listening in now using the 'X Multimedia System'." - Ben P.
Many thanks to Eric and Ben!
Other Players:
If you prefer to use other players (i.e. MusicMatch, Sonique, Windows Media Player… etc.), they should follow the same pattern. Please refer to this page for more comprehensive information.
