Act Now!
4 - 29 - 2007

Hi, everyone... There are many Internet music fans out there so we have a duty to perform. Please read on...

"The future of Internet radio is in immediate danger. Royalty rates for webcasters have been drastically increased by a recent ruling and are due to go into effect on May 15 (retroactive to Jan 1, 2006!). Internet radio needs your help! H.R. 2060, The Internet Radio Equality Act was introduced by Representatives Jay Inslee (D-WA) and Donald Manzullo (R-IL) to save the Internet radio industry. Please call your congressperson to ask them to co-sponsor H.R. 2060." More Information.

Just remember the joy of listening to music at home, at work, and at your favorite coffee shop. Remember the joy of being introduced to something new and exciting. This is what Internet radio brings to the people, so let's make our actions speak louder than their words. Thanks!

Ranked #4!
3 - 25 - 2007

Hi, everyone...

I would like to announce that as of March 15th, 2007, Permanent Waves has jumped from the fifth to the fourth rank in the Live365 Soundtrack category. This tells me that listeners, both longtimers and newcomers, like what they hear, so many thanks to all of you.

As for the updates: People were quite taken by Erich Kunzel's work so I decided to build on that–I added a remake of the main theme from The Battle of Britain. Also added was soft track by Bernard Herrmann from The Ghost and Mrs. Muir. Both contributions come from Louis, so thanks again! I also added the beautiful track "The Shape of Things to Come" from Battlestar Galactica, thanks to John Moses. Finally, I stumbled upon a couple of exotic-sounding tracks from Nomad, which I loved and, naturally, included.

I hope you guys enjoy those new additions. Keep the emails coming!

Kiss My Ash...
2 - 21 - 2007

Happy Ash Wednesday... I just thought I'd quickly slip in and update everyone on some web site news and track additions.

To begin with, I always felt somewhat alien to classic movies and their soundtracks. Yes, I know I have a couple of good ones here and there sprinkling the Permanent Waves stream, but I never really gave them a fair chance. Thanks for the generous contributions of one the station's listeners, my eyes and ears are now open. Many thanks to Louis!

I added Erich Kunzel remakes of the "Theme" from Exodus and "Arctic Whale Hunt" from The White Dawn. In addition, two original pieces from the Mark of Zorro and the Parisian Waltz from Is Paris Burning? Finally, I traveled back to present time and included two more tracks from the adult fairy tale, Pan's Labyrinth.

For anyone who's interested, with regards to web site redesign, I finished learning CSS and table-less designs. Right now, I'm tackling PHP server-side scripting and database management. We'll see how things go and maybe I'll have a test page set up in the near future.

Once again, thanks for listening, and for your suggestions and comments. Keep them coming!

Happy Everything
12 - 2 - 2006

Quickly, Happy Thanksgiving, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Just getting these out of the way since I'll be travelling for about 4 weeks and won't have time to update the station.I haven't done much to conform to web standards yet as I've been busy with both work and school. However, the small flame of intention is still there and alive.

I have a collection of new tracks for you. Two very nice, orchestra-sweeping tracks from the HBO series Angels in America (which I've never seen, by the way.) Another track from The Black Dahlia is dark and agitated, transporting you to Hollywood's golden years; I was hesitant to add the 4th track, "African Rundown" from Casino Royale. Not that it isn't good, but the hard-hitting percussion-oriented music might add a spike to the sort of uniform feel of Permanent Waves. Last but not least, I played the game Dreamfall: The Longest Journey, and I couldn't help but notice the powerful music accompanying the amazing visuals. This track is a combination of two selections based solely on my enjoyable gaming experience.

Thanks for listening, and for your suggestions and comments. Keep them coming!

Web Standards? Not a bad idea
8 - 20 - 2006

I wanted to comply with web standards, so I decided to renovate cin3ma.tv by implementing server-side scripting and database managment along with cascading style sheets for layout and appearance. However, this will be an extremely slow process as I'm going to be busy with both work and school this Fall. Now back to the music...

I was flipping through the cable channels one night and I came across Collateral on Cinemax. It was toward the end, but I kept watching. What caught my attention was the captivating ending music, Requiem, by Antonio Pinto. The other two tracks from Serenity and World Trade Center were suggested and contributed by Eric Mittan and Liz Ferraris. Many thanks to them. Last but not least, a more intense piece by James Newton Howard from Lady in the Water. I hope you like these selections.

For those who send me emails, I apologize for not replying in a timely manner, but rest assured that I read each and every email. Once again, thanks for listening and for your suggestions and comments. Keep them coming.

I'm Not Dead...
6 - 19 - 2006

... just dormant. I've been so busy with work and commuting that I haven't had enough time to work on the station. However, I've been reading each and every listener mail. In fact, today's additions are mainly based on those very e-mails. The listeners who suggested these soundtracks–you know who you are...

"The Wings" from Brokeback Mountian is an emotional representative theme with acoustical touches. From The Da Vinci Code, "Kyrie for the Magdalene" is a sorrowful track which interestingly was composed by Richard Harvey, and not Hans Zimmer. The two tracks from Finding Neverland only prove Jan Kaczmarek's majestic and sprightly compositions.

I hope you enjoy the new tracks, and remember to keep your comments and suggestions coming.

Live365 Site Access Problems
3 - 4 - 2006

It looks like Live365 had some DNS issues the last couple of days. "A DNS server change yesterday at Live365 is still causing access problems for users on some networks. Unfortunately, some networks take longer than others to pick up the DNS changes." I was busy with work the last couple of days, so I apologize for not posting links to the news and the workrarounds.

Thankfully, the issue has been resolved and the web site is up and running. I added a link to the Live365 Network Status site on the main page for future reference. This should be the second line of defense when experiencing connectivity issues.

Two Days Till Fat Tuesday
2 - 26 - 2006

Mardi Gras is upon us. This update has absolutely nothing to do with it, but I like to think so. Three more additions come as a direct result of listener requests, thanks to them. Two come from The Chronicles of Narnia. While a very few of the themes are akin to those in Kingdom of Heaven, there is enough variety and beauty to make them worthwhile. Among the mix is a softer piece called "Tennessee" from Pearl Harbor.

I hope you enjoy the new tracks, and remember to keep your comments and suggestions coming!

New Tracks to Welcome 2006
1 - 23 - 2006

As I was sampling several raw tracks for addition, I realized that I needed to balance out several of the soft pieces with a couple of hard-hitting action cues. There was no doubt that tracks from King Kong would pass the filter–ultimately, one that represents the eeriness of Skull Island and the emergence of the beast and the other solidifying the emotional and pure relationship between beauty and the beast. Another hard-hitting track, Myotis, comes from Batman Begins. The other two are captivating love themes from Pride & Prejudice and Love Actually.

I hope you enjoy the new tracks, and remember to keep your comments and suggestions coming!

Happy New Year
1 - 17 - 2006

Everyone... Happy New Year, Merry Christmas, Happy Eid, Happy Hanukah, Happy Kwanzaa, and Happy Holidays!

It's amazing what goes on and what doesn't in this yearly turnover. Fortunately, I had a nice new year time and I hope you did, too. As for station news, as some might have noticed, I have been experimenting with live broadcasting on the low quality stream for a while and, frankly, the results were average–the station kept encountering some disconnection issues every 2-3 days.

For a while, the station has been bumped off the Live365 directory due to a single DMCA violation, which is "too many tracks by a single artist", namely John Williams. This resulted in losing a number of listeners and total listening hours. As impossible as it is, I had to remove 7 John Williams tracks from the rotation in order to comply. Now, we're back on track. Rest assured though, I will be injecting the tracks back again one-by-one as I add more music by other great composers.

For now, enjoy the music and keep on the lookout for more tunes headed your way... including tracks from King Kong.
